FUN FACT ABOUT LIVING IN YANGON...
We have twenty-four bank holidays a year. Yes you read that correctly - twenty-four bank holidays. The Burmese love to celebrate, and take the day off to honour Buddhist Full Moon Days, the Armed Forces, Peasants, Martyrs, Christmas... you name it.
This usually means far less holiday allowance, so offices aren't permanently empty, but there are plenty of mid-week holidays to enjoy the unparalleled joy of not being in the office on a work day.
This is how i'll be bank-holidaying this weekend, in salute to the giant feet-up happening over on home soil:

Eleanor Oliphant is completely brilliant. She is the girl in the office who blends into the background apart from her slightly odd dress-sense and very particular tea habits. But she has a story which you will romp through in one sitting, and which will make you cackle and sob and reassess everything. Cannot recommend more highly.

Before the days of mobile phone cameras, these courageous reporters hid VCRs up their sleeves and risked their lives for the footage, sometimes fatally. It's an astonishing reminder of how far this country has come in 10 years.
