This is the mortar without its pestle. A very pretty trinket pot perhaps? This would make a great giant salt cellar. Or maybe you have a pestle at home that is in need of a mortar? Use it as a small mixing or serving bowl? A jewellery pot? Bathroom storage? Tea-light holder?

This pot is still functional, still beautiful just missing a pestle so needs a more creative use!

It is made in a tiny village in Burma, just north of Mandalay, in a small family workshop. The village itself is called "marble" in Burmese, where every family makes a living from the giant marble mountain that they live beneath.
