Weekends with no plans

Weekends with no plans

Do you love them or hate them?

Either way, they're a rare thing

When one comes along, do you rush to fill it, or relax into it?

This weekend, the latter won. Here's what came out of it.

Watching the bees happily busying around on the wisteria, tucking themselves right inside the blowsy, soft blooms. A delightful peekaboo.

A new recipe, and a triumphant one: this one.

Served in some bowls launching later this summer, and are already a favourite.

Board games with small naked children in the shade, concentrating very earnestly with their goggles still on. (Try Go Genius, if you haven't tried it).

A new park. The biggest, most expensive ice cream from the van, because isn't that exactly the point of life?

A long Sunday morning bath.

Even the chaos of tea with small children felt less painful, bookended by small pleasures.

Drinking from a favourite glass. Chopping lemons on a lovely board. Pinching chilli from a simple but perfect pinch pot.

In years gone by, a weekend with no plans would have been frantically filled. But these days, an unplanned weekend isn't empty. It's full of tiny, lovely things.
