Meet the makers behind our collection with Emma Jane Palin

So much goes into our collections, from the initial designs to showing you the final products. But the most important part? Our makers and how they craft each piece. We always want to remind you of where these pieces are made, whose hands have made them, and most importantly, their own stories. We asked each maker a little about themselves, what they love about their craft and what they'd like our community to know about both Burma and their work.

What do you like about the side table?

It’s lovely because of its rectangular shape. It is a bit challenging for us as it requires double framing. I can tell it will be a good addition to your room.

What do you love about working with Kalinko?

I love making things for Kalinko because it reminds us to make the best quality products. We know Kalinko supports small businesses and makers like us, so we want to keep working with them!

What would you like people to know about both Burma and your work?

I feel so happy and proud when I hear people saying that the products I've made are beautiful; it's one of the reasons I chose to be a maker!

What do you like about the Round Lampshade?

I like weaving round shapes because it requires skill and creativity.

What do you love about working with Kalinko?

Kalinko always gives us unique, creative designs - it’s fun for us!

What would you like people to know about both Burma and your work?

I'd like people to know that we're making these beautiful products, and that the materials we use are all environmentally friendly.

What do you like about the Glass Lamp Base?

It was a real challenge! It took us a long time to get the shape right, and to get them all looking uniform. They had to be precise for the lamp-fittings to fit, so it was tricky! We got there in the end though.

What do you love about working with Kalinko?

I love that Kalinko shows who is behind these products by asking us questions and promoting our craft to people all over the world.

What would you like people to know about both Burma and your work?

I would love for more people to come and visit Myanmar – to see how we make all our products by hand!

What do you like about the glass mug?

We make it without a mould, which means it requires a lot of skill. It's definitely challenging. The shape is also quite similar to old mugs that Burmese people used in the old days, so it's great to bring that back.

What do you love about working with Kalinko?

We get to practise our skills so much with Kalinko – each time we make something, we improve and have even more fun! Kalinko is one of our loyal customers, so we all love to work for them.

What would you like people to know about both Burma and your work?

I want people to invest more in Myanmar and I'd love them to see how everything is made here.

What do you like about the round cushion?

We loved weaving this pattern for Kalinko. It is an old traditional pattern but on a larger scale. It looks great!

What do you love about working with Kalinko?

We all love to weave for Kalinko because they support our craft. It's great to know that people from all over the world can learn about our stories and cultures.

What would you like people to know about both Burma and your work?

I'd love to transfer these skills on to the new generation so that our weaving practices aren't forgotten in the future. It's so important to hold onto these traditions.
