Gosh the Chelsea Flower Show is joyful isn't it? I haven't even been, but social media would have me believe otherwise, and the fabulous florets all over my phone have had me reaching nostalgically for the "Burmese Blooms" file on my laptop.
One of my favourite things about living in Yangon was the abundance of flowers in the markets and their tiny prices. You could have 14 bunches of fresh flowers in the house, including in the bathroom, for the price of a single stem in the UK.
Burma is always in bloom—bougainvillea cascading over walls, perky golden trumpets bobbing in the breeze, lotus flowers sunbathing on the lakes. There is always a glorious sweet honeysuckle or a wild poinsettia somewhere nearby to lift you out of whatever tricky situation you are trying to solve.
I've just put a bunch of my pictures through my app (Picture This) and the names are pure joy, so to indulge this week's enthusiasm, here is a round of Burmese Bloom Bingo for you to take with you to Chelsea. I would love to know if you find any of them.
