Yangon Time Machine

Yangon, previously called Rangoon, is the bustling capital of Myanmar, known as Burma until 1989. The transition from the Rangoon of the late 18th Century, to the Yangon of today, though chequered, has resulted in a dynamic, modern city which Kalinko is lucky to call home.

Prada-lined shopping malls and Porches are popping up so rapidly, it's sometimes difficult to visualise what it looked like even as recently as 2013 when we first arrived, let alone at the turn of the century.  But one Yangon resident's astonishing photographic project, the Yangon Time Machine, has documented the change of the past century extraordinarily beautifully.

Photos of Yangon locations taken around 100 years ago are compared with shots in exactly the same spot today. Below are our favourites, the central merged photo in each banner the perfect expression of our addiction to this magical city.
